Arno Carstens and friends shine on the M-Net stage

Cape Town - When last have you seen iconic rocker Arno Carstens take centre stage in a local music television special? Masterpieces like Another Universe and Hole in My Heart are part of the repertoire of tunes many South Africans know off by heart, but seeing him action, with musical friends like Francois van Coke, Zolani, and Ard Matthews from Just Jinger, is an unmissable event.

M-Net continues to celebrate and support local music talent with its series of once-off music specials called M-Net and Friends. This week Sunday (8 January 2017) at 17:30 the spotlight falls on former Springbok Nude Girls frontman, platinum selling, and much-acclaimed singer-songwriter, Arno Carstens.

In a rock café setting, Arno performs some of the hits that have turned him into a household name, as well as beautiful songs from his recent Afrikaans album. To make the evening even more special, Arno has assembled a star-studded line-up of acts and musos whom he admires. The show includes collabs with fellow rocker Francois van Coke and the legendary Theo Crous, the former Springbok Nude Girls guitarist who continued his music wizardry with recordings for many of the country’s top artists. Francois also shines behind the mic with a solo performance of his hit Mensdom, before Zolani from Freshly Ground and Ard Matthews from Just Jinger once again illustrate why they are among the best in the business.

Zolani keeps the audience in the palm of her hands with soulful renditions of Buttercup and I Like while her sweet sounds are counterbalanced by the distinct gruff voice of Ard. He performs two mega-hits: Shallow Waters and Wonder Years.

Viewers can also look forward to seeing the unique African rock band BLK JKS in action.

"These special M-Net & Friends shows will provide music magic on our Sunday night schedule until The Voice SA season 2 kicks off on Sunday 29 January," says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard.

"We are immensely proud of these high-quality music specials which have been created to keep our M-Net 101 audience entertained during the festive season."

For the holidays, M-Net also conjured up a special movie pop-up channel, called M-Net Inspire (channel 109 on DStv) and M-Net Movies Smile (channel 105) which will still keep the young ones mesmerised with its special Animania festival.

Furthermore, M-Net now brings DStv Premium viewers three premiere movies on Sunday evenings.

This week Sunday, 8 January, M-Net 101 is screening the comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 at 20:05,the side-splitting sequel to the 2002 smash hit that brings the Portokalos family together again. Then, M-Net Movies Premiere (channel 104) has Goosebumps at 20:30, a spine-shivering kids adventure featuring Jack Black as author R.L. Stine. Plus, the world cinema foreign language film on M-Net Edge (channel 102) this week is Ida, an Oscar-winning drama following the poignant, story of a young nun in 1960s Poland.
