Catch Alice Phoebe Lou live in SA in February!

Cape Town - This February, South African Alice Phoebe Lou returns to the country for three shows.

Alice has been developing her bluesy, folk sound busking on the streets of Berlin and she has caught the ears of a community of music lovers the world over with her honest storytelling and raw, beautiful voice. Growing up in Cape Town, she left South Africa with no money and started busking on the streets of Berlin. She was invited to perform at TEDx Berlin, of which her performance went viral and received almost half a million views.

Alice released her new album, Orbit last year in Europe, which charted at #2 on the German iTunes singer/songwriter charts and at #1 on the Austrian singer/songwriter charts. In September she was also nominated for Best Female Artist at the German Critics Choice Awards (Popkultur Awards).

Rolling Stone in Germany also published a six page spread on Alice praising her independent approach to releasing music. She has been on the cover of Tip Magazine in Berlin and also sold out four nights at the Berlin Planetarium.

Alice now returns to South Africa for the first time since the release of her new album. In February 2017, she will be performing two shows in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg.

Joining Alice at her JHB show, will be two-time SAMA nominee and critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Bongeziwe Mabandla, and electronic duo Kajama.

After releasing his debut album Umlilo in 2012, Bongeziwe has graced many international stages such as Primavera Sound in Barcelona, Africa Festival in Germany, Sukiyaki Meets the World Festival in Japan and many others, perfecting his distinctive unplugged performance style. His matchless Afro-folk sound earned him praise both locally and internationally, which lead to Universal Records signing him at the end of 2016. He is set to release his much anticipated second album Mangaliso in May 2017. Bongeziwe will be performing with his new band, consisting of Mike Wright of band Zebra and Giraffe, and Tiago Correia-Paolo of bands 340ml and Tumi and the Volume.

As ‘future soul’ outfit Kajama, the ethereal sounds of the two Ndlovu sisters consists of them producing and singing. Nandi, who comes from more of an electronic music background, handles production and writing and also contributes background vocals. Nongoma, who studied music at the National School of the Arts, is charged with lead vocals and arrangement. They’re currently working on their debut EP.
