Chilling on the couch while chatting to Of Monsters And Men's Nanna

Cape Town – Sitting on my average brown leather couch I await a call from chilly London.

It’s Of Monsters and Men’s Nanna. She's chilling on her “funky orange couch” at home. I can but only imagine the set-up of her living room.

While she may think telling me about her over-sized fuzzy sweater was a bit too much, I must admit I’m a little excited for the cold and cosy weather expected in the coming months.

Now that we’re acquainted and comfortable, I ask Nanna about groupies, safaris and what to expect of their SA gigs.

I hear it’s your first time in South Africa. What are you most looking forward to during your visit?

We’re very excited to have the opportunity to visit. We don’t have much time while on tour but we are pretty excited to perform and to meet our South African fans.

Aside from performing, what else will you be getting up to while visiting SA?

We have been advised to go on safari so I hope we have time to do that. We will probably do some sightseeing and maybe go on a hike too.

Being the only girl in the band, do the guys treat you like one of them?

They definitely treat me as one of the guys. They’re always fooling around with me and punching me and that sort of stuff. I’m more of a sister to them than anything else.

What is the craziest thing that has happened to you on tour?

Wow there has been so many crazy times, especially on stage. It’s always funny because the fans go crazy, but we love it because it makes the show more memorable.

There was this one time when someone ran onto stage and grabbed the mic and wanted to say something but ended up freaking out and screaming. It was so funny.

Where is your favourite place to perform?

I love the crowd in South America. They’re always so lively and fun. Italy is also always fun to visit but my personal favourite is Japan. I love going to Japan.

Do you have any groupies that always follow you around?

(Laughs) Because we go to a lot of places regularly you do tend to get to know the crowd and see familiar faces.

But there is this one guy that is always in the crowd. I think he is from Switzerland but he always stands in the middle of the crowd and throws chocolates at us. It’s really sweet actually, whenever we see him then we’re like ‘Hey! It’s chocolate guy again!’”

If you could collaborate with any muso, who would it be?

I have no idea why this just popped into my head but the Spice Girls. Don’t ask me why but I love them, we should totally go on tour! Can you imagine that!

What can fans expect from the show?

Well I don’t want to give too much away, but we will be doing a bit of a mix of the two albums. We are just going to give it our all and hope our South African fans enjoy it.
