Cape Town – The music video for Can You Feel It, a track by DJ Qness and December Streets, was officially released on Thursday.
The song was released in November 2015 by Coke Studio and has since been receiving extensive commercial airplay on South African radio. The single is currently nr 9 on the Top 40 most locally played songs on SA radio, according to the EMA | SA Local Music Top 40 Playlist Chart. The video premiered exclusively on TRACE on Wednesday.
The video was shot in January on location of a TV series - a phenomenal setting of a massive factory with sets built into it which the artists got to explore and have fun in. The video was created by Run Jump Fly and shows the camera following two actors around, exploring their surroundings whilst conveying a sad love story.
The concept follows the adventure of an intense love most people tend to fall into - oblivious and glorious - through a couple that breaks into a closed down movie set. Eventually the viewer comes to the realisation that it is actually just a game, and the one party is being pushed around and misled.
"The lyrics and meaning of the song talk about a high energy, intense love with someone who can’t quite give back what you’re putting in. The Run Jump Fly team beautifully captured this through the lead female character (Mikayla Mclean), who plays the role of an adventurous, highly attractive and daring personality. She then leads the slightly oblivious guy (Sean Tucker) through this adventure, only to be taken on a ride that does not end up well for him. This is definitely the most cinematic and emotive video we have shot; we love the emotion and wonder it captured." - December Streets.
"The idea with this video was to create a concept that would take all of us out of our comfort zones and to make a statement that would marry the very thin line between music and art. For me, coming from a dance music environment, it's always been about the music, but with 'Can You Feel It’ we also made it about the visuals. We wanted to create a Broadway musical and to take the audience to a movie theatre. I think we achieved just that. This is not a music video: It's a film, a well-crafted artistic three minute film, and I'm so stoked to be a part of it." - DJ Qness.
