Cape Town – Skunk Anansie released a new single and video from their sixth studio album, Anarchytecture, on Friday.
The single, Without You, shows that Skunk Anansie – one of the UK’s most successful and ground-breaking rock acts – have lost none of their collective mojo.
As always, the song (produced by Tom Dalgety of Royal Blood fame) showcases the heart-on-sleeve qualities of vocal powerhouse, Skin, who leads her fellow players through an alternative anthem full of light, shade and emotive power.
Not that it was plain sailing…
"Without You has been quite a journey for the band," Skin exclaims, "we literally went through the many stages and various roads of creative madness before realising that our first crappy demo version was the best!"
The song – the third single to be drawn from Anarchytecture – is accompanied by a video dripping with dark mirth.
"We love that side of it," continues Skin, "the failed ridiculous attempted suicides appeal to our dirty sense of humour…"
