Fokofpolisiekar makes history as their crowdfunding campaign reaches R1m

Cape Town – On Tuesday evening Fokofpolisiekar struck the record amount of R1m with their Thundafund crowdfunding campaign, going down in history once again.

According to Thundafund.com, the band broke a South African record in rewards-based crowdfunding.

"Here at ThundaFund we have dubbed ourselves ‘African Rainmakers’, with Fokof more than doubling their original campaign goal of R500 000, it’s safe to say, their legion of fans made it pour, raising over R1 million, a figure unprecedented for a South African based Rewards Crowdfundig platform," says Thundafund Social Media Marketing Officer, Nicholas Dilley.

"There is a message to be heard for all entrepreneurs, whether you are starting out or perhaps looking for a way to rejuvenate your business, rewards-based crowdfunding is gaining momentum in the South African market and shows no sign of slowing down," adds Dilley.

With 4 days left of this crowdfunding campaign, the band more than doubled their original dream goal of R500 000. So far nearly 1 300 impassioned fans backed the campaign with Lush Festival and Converse contributing R100 000 each.

The success of this campaign is no small feat in a challenging music industry. It proves the potential that can be reached and the lengths Fokofpolisiekar’s fans will go to hear new music from the band.

It’s about the music

The main focus for the band now is to finish writing the album as they start recording in June. The guys get together as much as possible to write a full length album worth waiting 11 years for.

"We write the music that we like and what we would like to listen to. This is how we’ve always done it. If all 5 of us like it, it is good enough to take further. That is how we filter and select the songs that will go on the album," says Wynand Myburgh, bassist and manager of Fokofpolisiekar.

Fokofpolisiekar songs are always very personal. The topics derive from conversations between the five members about everything happening around them and how they are influenced by their environment. Hunter Kennedy is the main lyricist and has the unique ability to capture the band’s vibe.

There is no working title for the album yet, but the band shared a photo on social media of working titles for the tracks.

The official release date of the album is 3 October 2017, accompanied by the release of the first singles and music video.

In true Fokofpolisiekar tradition, the guys will hit the road to launch their album countrywide.
