Guy Buttery and Shane Cooper join forces for local tour

Cape Town – Renowned international instrumentalist Guy Buttery and bass extraordinaire Shane Cooper are teaming up for their first collaborative tour which kicks off in the Western Cape this March.

The idea to collaborate together as a duo has been on the cards for many years and is finally happening starting with a series of concerts in and around Cape Town.

As an internationally recognised musician, Guy Buttery enjoys invitations to play sell-out performances all over the globe. The USA, UK, Australia, France, Brazil, and Italy have all welcomed him back year after year. However, to simply label Guy Buttery as one of South Africa’s musical phenomena’s would be an injustice. His international role has surpassed merely performing concerts to foreign audiences. It has evolved into one as an ambassador of South African music, inspiring people across the world with his homegrown style at the very heart of his talent and tenacity. Guy’s distinct unification of South African guitar music is the musical advocate for everything positive and beautiful about the place he calls home.

Shane Cooper has spent the past decade collaborating, performing and recording with various artists, both internationally and from all over Southern Africa. His debut album, Oscillations, won the 2014 South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Jazz Album. Shane also received the highly prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 2013. Cooper has performed all over the globe working with the likes of Kyle Shepherd, Zim Ngqawana, Lionel Loueke, and Kesivan Naidoo, as well as regularly performing under his electronic dance moniker, Card on Spokes.

These internationally acclaimed artists bring their work back home with their first duo tour, which kicked off in March in Cape Town. Shane and Guy have individually collected a variety of accolades in their careers however this is the first time that both South African Music Award (SAMA) recipients will perform together as a duo, creating a new experience for music lovers that encapsulates a melting pot of South African musical flavours.
