Help this SA band get to the SXSW Music Festival in the US

Cape Town – Local band Diamond Thug has been chosen as one of three acts to play a set at the SXSW (South by Southwest) festival in Austin, Texas.

For those who don’t know, the SXSW Music Festival is one of the largest and most influential global music industry events of the year, taking place from 10-19 March in Austin, Texas.

The band entered the All Roads Lead To Austin competition run by backpack and luggage brand, Jansport. Through the competition, Jansport shortlisted nine bands from around the world. The bands had to submit videos to introduce themselves.

Diamond Thug were the only South African band amongst entrants from the US, Philippines, Canada, Peru and Argentina. And they’ve been selected as one of the three winning bands in the competition who receive shows at the prestigious SXSW festival.

Taking to their Facebook page on Wednesday, Diamond Thug announced the amazing news together with a break down of the funding they would need to get to Austin.

"That's super exciting and we're so ready to go! However the cost of all of this is going to blow all of our bank accounts and probably leave us unable to eat food for the next few months!

"We're working hard at funding the tour using a combination of private savings, corporate partners and, this is where we need you, crowd-campaign. Of the $150k costs, we're hoping to raise R35k from our crowd-funding campaign!"
