Join Jack Mantis for a show filled with surprises

Cape Town - As enigmatic musician and adventurer Jack Mantis gears up for his show at Café Roux in Noordhoek tonight, we checked in with him to ask him a few questions.

Check it out here:

Channel24: You’re playing Café Roux tonight, what can people expect of your set?
Jack Mantis: Andre an I have been refining our duo show for some time now. I feel we have reached a point of absolute musical unity. Every show is different, as the deeper we reach into the songs the more they seem to be giving back. I'll be bringing the piano in for this one, so JMB fans can expect some surprises as per usual. Joining us will be Nic Gaud from 7th Son and newcomer Satya.

C24: What is the most absurd or funniest thing that has ever happened at one of your gigs?
JM: One that comes to mind was at Mercury in Cape Town. I was mid ballad when a guy appeared out of nowhere stood next to me completely naked and did the windmill for the rest of the song. The windmill is when you...well, you get the picture.

C24: What’s the one thing that no knows about you?
JM: I have an obsession for crochet blankets, there I said it.

C24: If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would it be and why?
JM: Vusi Mahlasela. He makes me want to be a better musician. I shared a stage with him awhile back at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town. My time backstage with him was truly enlightening. His voice, his insight and heart is breathtaking. He's the personification of humility. We could all take a page from Vusi’s book.

C24: Beef or Chicken?
JM: Roast Veggies

C24: Perfect holiday destination?
JM: Antarctica

C24: Your best pick up line ever?
JM: To be honest I don't think I've ever used one. I'm a hopeful romantic, so I prefer elaborate unforgettable acts of love.

C24: Your worst pick up line ever?
JM: Will you marry me?

C24: Exciting things currently happening for you?
JM: We've just finished a year of touring in the States and in Europe, and return to Europe at the end of this month for another 40 show run. We have a television series about our journey currently running on German television, and will be releasing a succession of music videos we've been shooting around the world for the last 3 years. We’re super excited to start sharing what we've been working so hard on.

C24: What`s next for you?
JM: We've teamed up with the Project Room and will be focusing our eyes back on SA. We'll be touring for the months of October and November as a trio before returning to the States...and will be bringing the full band over in Feb and March, with lots of surprises.
