Kesha's mom calls for Billboard Awards boycott

Los Angeles - Kesha's mother has called on artists to "refuse to perform" at the Billboard Music Awards.

The 29-year-old singer - who has claimed Dr Luke had been sexually abusing her for over a decade - has been banned from performing at the awards show on 22 May after the producer's label Kemosabe records "rescinded its approval" for her to perform at the event following concerns she'd speak out about their legal battle.

And now Kesha's mum, Pebe Sebert, has urged music stars to get behind her daughter by refusing to perform at the event.

She wrote on Twitter: "Wouldn't it be nice if other artists stood with Kesha and refused to perform if she is not allowed to sing!

"Are KEMOSABE's actions today the actions of a record label that is trying to promote the success of their artist?

"Wouldn't any record company fight to have their artist have the exposure to millions? Only if they wanted their artist to succeed ! (sic)"

Pebe also questioned the judge handling Kesha's case.

She tweeted: "So are Keshas constitutional rights being violated now, judge Lady? Does every adult woman need a mans permission to do what she loves?

"Does Kesha have the right to pursue her happiness? Or did they only mean that for rich men

"Do you think that there is one male singer who could ever be "not allowed to sing" on the Billboard Awards by another man???

"How much more public abuse does my daughter have to take before someone says "Enough is enough"!

"In an office, all the boss has to do is touch a woman's butt or breast and that's sexual harassment!! So what is this and where's the police

"And how can one person OWN another persons right to sing?

"Song is prayer. So can Kesha pray without permission? Where's the line judge lady? (sic)"

The Tik Tok hitmaker was unsuccessful with her legal bid to scrap her contract with Kemosabe Records earlier this year, and has been asked to testify under oath about the allegations she has made against Dr Luke, 42, who has denied all claims against him.

She was issued a subpoena to be questioned in an on-camera deposition in New York City in June.
