Nelly Furtado drops first song in 4 years and it's a Calvin Harris cover song!

Los Angeles - Nelly Furtado surprised fans on Monday by streaming a cover of Calvin Harris' Feels So Close

The I'm Like a Bird hitmaker's acoustic rendition of the DJ's 2012 track is the first newly-recorded music she's shared with fans since her The Spirit Indestructible LP almost four years ago, despite teasing fans that she had finished recording her sixth studio album in February.

Taking to her Facebook page, Nelly announced: "I originally did a live version of this Calvin Harris' cover Feel So Close at a radio station in 2012 which was posted on YOUTUBE.

"I decided recently to record my own version in the studio and post it exclusively on SPOTIFY so that music fans can enjoy streaming it (sic)"

The 37-year-old singer/songwriter went on to explain that she decided to share the song on music-streaming service Spotify because they are "very artist friendly" and pay musicians well for their work.

She continued: "I chose SPOTIFY for this as they are very very artist friendly and compensate musicians well for their art.

"I know some people have been using this as a "first dance" wedding song, and summer is here, so enjoy! (sic)"

Nelly - who has 12-year-old daughter Nevis with ex-boyfriend Jasper Gahunia - had previously been in the studio with producer Duke Dumont in late 2014.

The 33-year-old songwriter said at the time: "An interesting one at the moment -- we're doing some stuff in the very early stages with Nelly Furtado.

"I love her. With Nelly Furtado, you could write a hit record that would actually be good."

Back in February Nelly - who has been dating her Loose producer partner Demacio Castellon since 2008 - said the album was finished in a studio in Dallas, Texas.

On 11 February 2016, she posted on Twitter: "I just finished recording my album in Dallas, Texas."
