Niall Horan can't believe One Direction's been on a break for six months

Los Angeles - Niall Horan can't believe One Direction have been on a break for six months.

The 22-year-old singer is enjoying "just being able to chill" and not having to conform to a hectic touring schedule but is shocked how quickly the time has passed.

He told Global Radio: "It doesn't feel like it [but] we've been off six months already. I was talking to Louis about it the other day, it feels like it was only yesterday that we were touring.

"I have to say it's been really good, just being able to chill out, not really have a schedule, and just being able to do your own thing."

Meanwhile, Niall is reportedly set to release a solo album next year.

A source said recently: "Niall is the band's secret weapon - Modest Management and Syco believe he has what it takes to become a break out solo star.

"He has the songwriting and music talent, good looks and cheeky Irish personality which made him a favourite in the States. A deal with Syco is going to be signed in the coming weeks and Niall is already back in the studio writing.

"There's a hit single there too, which will probably be released early next year."

And Simon Cowell thinks the chance of One Direction reuniting is 50/50.

He said: "Whenever I was with them, we talked about it, and I couldn't argue with them. They had achieved so much in a short period of time, and I didn't want them to get jaded. As I've gotten older, I've learned to trust people more, particularly artists. They'll decide when they want to come back together.

"I don't know if it's a hiatus or a breakup, to be honest. In a weird way, I don't want to know. I don't think they've had enough time to experience what it's like not being in the group to really answer that."
