Richard Stirton ‘excited’ to open new Café Roux venue in Cape Town

Cape Town - The Voice SA winner, Richard Stirton, will be playing the very first show at the brand new Café Roux Cape Town on Friday.

The popular family-style café has been operating in the picturesque Farm Village in Noordhoek for 10 years. And in October it was announced that Café Roux is coming to the city.

Café Roux Cape Town is situated at 74 Shortmarket Street and will be opening its doors for the very first time this Friday. Richard Stirton will be launching his debut album on Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost R160 and are available online here.

We had a quickie with Richard ahead of his shows this weekend:

Your debut album is out! (We love it by the way!) What’s been the best part of releasing your debut album?

The whole process of recording it was amazing and working with such a phenomenal team while doing so, but after releasing it the best part has definitely been playing all the songs as often as possible to as many people as possible. At the end of the day I think artists want to make original music and the level of satisfaction one gets from playing to people and getting positive reactions from their original stuff is by far the most satisfying thing about having an album out there.

If you were forced to listen to one song from your album on repeat for a day, which one would it be?

Probably Call it Luck. I love the dynamics, it has ups and downs and is really a feel good track. If I’m honest I often find myself listening to it more than once when I’m going through the album from time to time.

You’ll be the first artist to play at the brand new Café Roux in Cape Town, how does it feel?

It is an amazing feeling. I had always heard about the famous Café Roux, ever since I started playing music and checking out venues. It was always a place I had goals of playing at, so to be the artist playing on their opening night is an amazing feeling. I am really honoured that they asked me to be a part of their opening and I am very excited to play at what I have heard is an amazing new venue.

What can fans expect from your show at Café Roux?

I like saying supporters because I feel fans sound a little superficial, but I suppose they can expect 5 dudes on stage putting their heart and soul into the music that they will be playing. I do a lot of talking in between songs because I always want the audience to feel relaxed and connected to what we are doing. I love telling background stories about the songs and funny ‘behind the scenes’ stories of what we get up to as a band.

What are your plans for the holidays?

Quality time with the loved ones at some of my favourite places. I’m really looking forward to a good break with them after a hectic year. I owe a lot to them for all the unwavering support they have given me through everything. Super keen to chill.
