We catch up with Idols SA 2016 winner Noma

Cape Town - Noma ended 2016 on a high note winning the 12th season of Idols SA and releasing her debut album Joy just a few weeks after.

And now she has kicked off 2017 with her brand new second single, Moving On, taken from her debut album, collaborating with one of SA’s top producers, Sketchy Bongo.

We had a catch up with Noma about her new single and her plans for the rest of the year.

Check it out here:

How are you and what have you been up to?

I am well thanks and you? I have released my second single called Moving On ft. Sketchy Bongo, which is circulating on radio. I have also shot my music video which should be on all music stations soon.

You recently released your second single off your debut album, titled Moving On, featuring Sketchy Bongo. What has the response been to the song so far and what was it like working with Sketchy?

People have responded really well to the song. It is doing well and we are so excited because we are soon to release the music video for the single! The recording process was super fun. I had the privilege of working with Sketchy Bongo. It was an incredible experience. Sketchy had tweeted that he wanted to work with me before the finale, and then I had attended an interview on 5fm on the Thando Thabooty Show and Sketchy tweeted again that he wanted to work with me. I screamed out of excitement in studio and my record company, Gallo, were in contact with him and now we have a song together. It was such an incredible experience.

Since winning Idols and releasing your debut album, how has your life changed?

Winning Idols SA has meant a great deal to me. It has completely changed my life from being in a classroom environment every day to performing for my supporters. I am no longer a full time teacher as I have to be based in Johannesburg. A lot of the work requires me to be available for interviews, meetings during the day and performances in the evenings. I am now a full time musician.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned since winning Idols SA?

Sho, the lesson I have learnt is that giving up is not an option. You need to keep your head up and press forward.

Describe your album sound in one sentence.

My album, Joy, is afro pop/pop.

What’s your favourite song on the album and why?

I have 3 favourites. They are: Moving on ft. Sketchy Bongo (the experience of writing my very first song on my very first album with one very talented producer, Sketchy Bongo), God Made a Woman (celebrating a woman), and Ngifuna owami (I loved having the song writer in studio, helping me connect more with the song, which made the experience even more beautiful).

What’s the one thing no one knows about you?

That I have this super bubbly personality but I am really shy.

What are your plans for the rest of the year and where can people see you perform next?

People can expect to see my music on music video channels and radio more often soon. You can keep an eye out on my social media to find out where I will be performing next! My social media handles are: @NomaNomz (Twitter), @nomz.xolo (Instagram), @IdolsSANomaKhumalo (Facebook).
