Cape Town - Boiler Room and Ballantine’s earlier this month announced the launch of True Music Africa, a four-city tour that will take in exciting underground music scenes from countries as diverse as South Africa and Kenya.
The tour kicks off in Cape Town on 23 November with a line-up featuring the most pivotal hip hop artists involved in the local music scene before moving on to Cameroon, Nairobi and finally Jozi.
It will all culminate in July when Johannesburg will play host to the True Music Forum, a space for the international music community to learn, exchange and build new ideas through panel discussions and workshops.
The Cape Town show features some of the country’s most well-respected original self-starters, including K$, Dope Saint Jude, Youngsta CPT, Aux Womdantso and DJ Lyle.
Channel24 asked DJ Lyle a few quick questions:
My friend has never heard your music/sets before and is finally giving you a chance: What should I play first?
My first track would be something old school. Something that would take them back to when they first heard the track. Something memorable.
What sneakers are you wearing right now?
A pair of Nike Air Max.
We're driving to a party and I hand you the aux chord, what song is playing?
Something by J. Cole.
For your next performance, you can collab with any artist, alive or dead: Who's the feature?
I would collab with J. Cole or Methodman.
Which local artist is the most slept on?
Youngsta. No doubt.
