We cornered 2 bands to get the inside scoop on this weekend's River Republic Festival

Cape Town - Republicans, it is time to run away to the river and join us for a weekend of beats, mayhem, mischief, magic and music!

Meet new people and make friends for life, and for a while forget your city strife. Escape to the River Republic. A place where time slows and feet are moved by the rhythm of the river and the movements of the sun.

We asked two bands/artists from the line-up to tell us what their idea of a "hidden paradise" is and what we can expect from them this weekend:

MARAMZA:

What is your idea of a hidden paradise?

Probably that whole "To see a World in a Grain of Sand. And a Heaven in a Wild Flower". Or waking up to find I have the whole weekend to play Fallout 4. And in Fallout 4 discover the hidden paradise location (which I assume must be there somewhere).

Name three cool things that you are taking with to River Republic this year:

1. At least 10 x Wilson toffees (different flavours, especially the Stoney flavour).

2. The new combo toothbrush-toothpaste-towel-torch-toiletry bag (not invented yet, hopefully by the time for River Republic).

3. Pancakes on fleek.

What can fans expect from your set at River Republic?

I have fans? Oh no, what do they want from me?! Jokes. If I do indeed have fans, then they can expect a combo of bass music, hip-hop and kwaai vibes.

Any news e.g. new album or video that you would like the public to know about?

I have an EP about to be released called Low Magic. Rather mellow, kwaai sounds, earphone music with track features from Moonchild, Bonj and Boolz.

What is your idea of a hidden paradise?

A hidden paradise is a wonderland filled with secrets - a playground where lust and satisfaction meet. An island hidden away from civilization, a beach with white sand and palm trees. To access that subconscious dream filled with delight, you'll need an open-minded mentality - here's to hoping for a happy ending.

Name three cool things that you are taking with to River Republic this year:

1. A cellphone battery pack - ensures selfies all weekend-round.

2. Flipflops - athlete's foot is real. And it ain't pretty yo!

3. A pool noodle - because that's how you win the girl's heart.

What can fans expect from your set at River Republic?

Fans can expect energy, catchy melodies, non-stop dancing rhythms and maybe even a few songs to sing along with. Just one heck of a party in a nutshell.

Any news e.g. new album or video that you would like the public to know about?

We'll be dropping our first proper single right around the time of River Republic - Dolf Willemse (who plays bass for Francois van Coke) worked on this one with us and we're pretty excited about it.

The song's name is Little Thoughts and it's about an older guy falling for a (much) younger girl...

The deets:

Catch your most loved local musicians, both DJs and bands, and play chess on a dance floor. Let the music keep playing with a shake and a shiver, and you’ll be ever so grateful you came to the river.

Tickets: R850 for general camping. Pre- pitched tents, chalets and self- catering units also available.

Visit the website for more information and to book your ticket & accommodation option.

Gates open at 12h00 on Friday 27 November.
