We had a quickie with the man behind Parklife!

Cape Town - Parklife Festival returns to Cape Town on Monday, 28 March and will be headlined by Xavier Rudd and Civil Twilight.

The festival will be taking place at Green Point Cricket Oval on the last day of the Easter Weekend.

We had a quick catch-up with the man behind the festival, Damon Forbes.

Damon left his mark in a few areas of the music industry as he founded Sheer Sound 20 years ago.

Since then he started publishing and sync placement companies and then a booking agency to get bands more work.

His focus has now shifted to managing artists to build international careers with the likes of Jeremy loops and Oliver Mtukudzi, and as we know he loves building great festivals like Parklife, Sound of Light, and more recently LUSH.

Here’s our quickie with Damon:

How did Parklife come into being?

South Africa only really has festivals that are focused on the out-of-town shows that include sleepovers. Thus the target market is a certain age group that is rough and ready to party. I wanted to create a great city festival that was something people could travel to, enjoy and then head home.

What was the thought behind it?

I wanted to have a great party with people. I want to get people together that like to hang out with other people who also like music festivals.

What makes Parklife different from other festivals?

It’s mine….. no really. I took a long time to think about creating something that achieved a few different objectives. I wanted variation and also to leave people spoilt for choice with an experience from start to finish. From the music, to the vibe to the food. There’s something for everyone.

What will be a highlight at the festival?

I am really keen to see the new acts like Josh Wantie. But I’m also looking forward to the established bands like Goodluck, Desmond & The Tutus and Jeremy Loops. With the headliners I am obviously keen on Xavier Rudd, who played our first ever Parklife Festival in Johannesburg, and Civil Twilight who are originally from Cape Town and have now built an incredible career internationally for them.

See, damn it, I can’t even make my own mind up.

What can people expect from the day?

The best day out with family and friends.

What should people bring with to the festival?

A positive open mind, beautiful friends and a blanket
