Cape Town – Local band Colour Faction released their self-titled debut EP in August.
Having released their first single, Marco Polo, in July, this four-piece band is all about storytelling.
The EP shows off their best attributes as a band: sophisticated pop arrangements, intricate vocal harmonies, smart lyrics and catchy hooks - great ingredients for a debut offering.
We had a quick chat with frontman Joshua G. Ackerman about the band and the EP.
Check it out here:
When and how did you guys form the band?
As friends, we came together through a shared appreciation for thoughtful, melodic indie rock - the New Pornographers, Arcade Fire, Eels etc.
What was the most challenging thing about recording an EP?
The songs on the EP were written many years prior to recording. The challenge was in remaining brutally honest with ourselves, especially after we had all fallen in love with the fantasy versions that had been playing in our heads for so long. On the other hand, hearing the tracks finally come to life was, and still is, so exciting.
Can you describe your sound in one sentence?
Smart, melodic indie pop/rock with evocative lyrics and intricate boy/girl vocal harmonies.
What inspires your music?
Film, literature, history and storytelling. A good story should make you want to lean in a little closer, and a good song should take you on a journey.
What’s the one thing no one knows about you?
We have to keep the 'one thing' no one knows about us very secret. Trust us, we want to tell you, but we can't... yet.
