Amy's ex in court on rape charges

London - The former boyfriend of the late British singer Amy Winehouse will face trial later this year on two counts of rape, a judge said on Tuesday.

Reg Traviss, a film director who was in a relationship with Winehouse when she died last July, was released on bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

Dressed in a grey suit with a dark tie, he spoke only to give his name, address and date of birth.

Judge Stephanie Wickham said the 35-year-old, who was arrested in April, will face trial at Southwark Crown Court in London on 12 September.

She granted him bail on the condition that he does not contact his alleged victim or visit the Experimental Cocktail Club in London's Soho district.

He is accused of two counts of rape in the early hours of 31 December last year, the court heard.

Grammy-winner Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning at her London home, aged 27.
