Los Angeles - Angelina Jolie has been honoured for her humanitarian work.
The Oscar-winning actress and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari in Baghdad during her recent trip to the Middle East, where she was presented with a red box containing a symbolic gift.
During their meeting Angelina urged Zebari to ensure Syrian refugees have enough supplies and as part of her tour for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Angelina has also met with displaced Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.
Angelina left in tears
She said during her visit to a refugee tent camp in Jordan: "I am grateful to Jordan and the border countries for saving the lives of those who are dying in Syria. It's an extraordinary thing. We encourage the international community to support the people here until one day they go back home."
Angelina was left in tears after visiting a Syrian refugee camp as she delivered a speech portraying her "concern" at the situation there.
Speaking with tears in her eyes, she said: "I am very concerned, the world is very concerned. What is very heartbreaking is when Syrian people ask you why you think no one is able to find a solution for them.
'Peope of Syria are asking who is on their side'
"What they described on the ground, hearing it from them is so horrific. When you meet so many innocent people and civilians, the people of Syria are asking who is on their side," she said.
Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to stop the bloodshed in Syria, but the new UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi plans to travel to Syria this week in a bid to revive them. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Brahimi will sit down with President Bashar Assad during an upcoming visit this weekend.
