Angelina undergoes emergency surgery after second cancer scare

2015-03-24 08:55

Los Angeles – Hollywood actress, Angelina Jolie on Tuesday revealed to the New York Times that she recently underwent a procedure to remove her fallopian tubes and ovaries after a cancer scare.

This comes just two years after she had a preventive double mastectomy.

The 39-year-old revealed to the New York Times that her doctor informed her two weeks ago that a test result showed markers that could be a sign of ovarian cancer.

"I went through what I imagine thousands of other women have felt," Jolie wrote.

"I told myself to stay calm, to be strong, and that I had no reason to think I wouldn’t live to see my children grow up and to meet my grandchildren."

She added: "I called my husband in France, who was on a plane within hours. The beautiful thing about such moments in life is that there is so much clarity. You know what you live for and what matters. It is polarizing, and it is peaceful."

According to Jolie she underwent a procedure called laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy after which doctors found "a small benign tumor on one ovary, but no signs of cancer in any of the tissues".
