Charlene left Monaco - Dad

2011-06-30 13:55
Monaco - Charlene Wittstock did leave Monaco this week, for a day of shopping with her mother in Paris ahead of her wedding to Prince Albert II this weekend, her father said in a newspaper on Thursday.

Press reports have suggested that Charlene had learned of some secret from Albert's private life and decided to head home to South Africa, only to be intercepted by royal aides and persuaded to stay on.

"I heard about this (rumour) the first time this morning, and I'm very surprised," Mike Wittstock told South Africa's Times newspaper in an interview on Wednesday.

"The only thing I can think it was, is that Charlene took her mom to Paris on Monday to get shoes and a hat for the wedding, and that's the only time she was anywhere near an airplane and she was there for the day and back," he said.

Mike Wittstock also called Albert "a very easy-going, humble guy".

Prince Albert is to wed the statuesque South African swimming champ in successive civil then religious ceremonies on July 1 and 2.

  • PJ - 2011-06-30 15:37

She's far too hot for him, even with all his money ! I'd understand it if he was about 95 and about to croak, but at 54 she's going to feel old age creeping on every night for the next 30 years !!!

      mamakalami - 2011-06-30 15:58

PJ - Had no idea you're psychic - shake your crystal ball again and you will see that no one really cares - as long as she's happy.

      PJ - 2011-06-30 21:26

Mama, not a psychic and don't live in a dream world, I hope he makes her happy, but with a couple of illegitimate kids and apparently still a girlfriend, forgive me for being cynical.

  • Andrew - 2011-06-30 15:50

Is is possible to report misleading and poor journalism like this to the media complaints commission?

      Bella - 2011-06-30 17:08

Only if you do not comprehend that media worldwide had a field day with this rumour. Tip: don't confide your knowldege base, on any subject for that matter, nor your clicks, to local media sites only. See eg the Yew York daily's not to mention the European (at least 17 of the leading newspaper sites) which prompt the question: where exactly, do you envisage lodging a complaint?

  • the_truth - 2011-06-30 16:05

Can't a prince have a skelmpie on the side anymore........

  • Mordred - 2011-06-30 16:45

Please let it just be a rumour for her sake. She does not deserve this.

  • Elna - 2011-06-30 16:51

That is the media for you...always looking for some drama and hype everthing up!!! That is what sell newspapers and keep people interested...always take what they say with a pinch fo salt!!! Sad...because they ruin People's life that way...Al that count is just money!!!!

  • pierreedge - 2011-06-30 16:55

Come one, take a plane, waste 6 hours in travel time, fly to Paris to buy shoes and a hat for her mom when there are some of the most exclusive boutiques in Monaco and in Nice, yeah right. If it's true, then typical airhead, polluting the planet, spending money frivolously, if not same thing.

      KanaMay - 2011-07-02 17:47

Dad should have said right out that Charlene just wanted to see Mom as soon as possible for some quality time. It's not as if a direct flight between SA & Monaco had been chartered for the family, so Paris or wherever would have been the first stop in Europe. But then, some tabloid might have said 'Charlene runs to Mom in tears'.

  • Uno_Beche - 2011-06-30 22:10
