Charlize didn't plan single parenthood

Los Angeles - Charlize Theron never planned on becoming a single mother until she decided she wanted to adopt.

The Oscar-winning actress - who gave a home to baby Jackson, who is from her native South Africa, in March - had always thought about adopting but never contemplated doing it without a man in her life.

The Prometheus actress told Australian magazine Madison: ''You know, I don't think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn't wish for that, but it happened.''

She added: ''I always knew I would adopt. Always.''

The 36-year-old actress has always been open about her desire to adopt, saying in 2011: ''I'm open to everything in life. I want a baby. If it would happen tomorrow I would be very happy.''

Charlize - who stars alongside Kristen Stewart in her new film, Snow White and the Huntsman - spilt from her partner boyfriend of 9 years, Stuart Townsend, in 2010.

But the 36-year-old screen beauty won't be getting hitched any time soon as she thinks marriage is nothing more than a ceremony.

She said: ''It has never been that important to me. I don't know why exactly. Some might say it's because my parents didn't have a good marriage, but I don't think so. I treat my relationships like marriages.

The ceremony isn't that important to me.''

Good for you. One more child that doesn't have to suffer the deprivations of so many children in SA. Don't spoil him too much, except with love. Don't let anyone put you off your course in life. You have risen above and beyond. Kudos to you Charlize.

I'm really happy to see that another child gets a home! However, it's another fatherless child and this world has to many of those. I truly believe this world is slowly becoming a fatherless nation! Men, rise to the occasion and take up your responsibility as a father! The World needs more genuine fathers! Please hear me here and I am in no means slandering or demising motherhood. I child needs two parents as intended! I'm slapping in the face, "boys" that run, duck and hide when they have children.

Maybe she's been single for too long. Some people get used to their own space. She could also possibly be choosing the wrong men to partner up with. That Townsend character had a slimy look about him. They say women end up with men that are similar to their fathers.
