Los Angeles - Tom Cruise's latest mission has won a holiday weekend that's shaping up with some silent nights at movie theaters as business continues to lag.

Studio estimates Sunday place Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol a solid No 1 with $26.5m domestically over its first weekend in full release.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was No 2 in its second weekend with $17.8m. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked finished third with $13.3m.

Big newcomers failed to light up the box office, though.

David Fincher and Daniel Craig's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was No 4 with $13m, Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin was No 5 with $9.1m and Cameron Crowe and Matt Damon's We Bought a Zoo was No 6 with $7.8m.

"as business continues to lag.". I have just watched a 2-13VL movie where the producer/maker/storyteller, chose to let young children swear profusely at hearts desire. As an adult, does this want me want to watch more movies of this kind or ask the question do we really want swearing to make a movie better coming from children? Hope the buisiness lags even more if we have stooped to this new all time low.

Narrow minded people like you need to lock up your house and stay inside. A word is only a word until YOU attach meaning to it. You are the one that gives it power... swear words were invented by man to explain certain emotions... if it's too much for you then please stay at home and don't come out. No where in the Bible does it say any swear word is a sin.

@renaldogouws: I didn’t bring religion or the bible into my comment, but seeing that you are a renown bible scholar, insulted me for no apparent reason, below a few quotes from The Best Nursery Rimes Vol 2: Jas_3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. And for good measure: Col_3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Mat_15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Pro_15:28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. Psa_34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Psa_39:1 To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue.

Tom Cruise is an egomaniac scientologist who needs a boot to the head. Evil little short man syndrome. Boycott him and all he stands for.
