Los Angeles - Johnny Depp has retained his title as America's favourite actor, according to a poll released on Friday by Harris Interactive.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star beat out Denzel Washington and Clint Eastwood who tied for second place, ahead of Tom Hanks and John Wayne.
But the poll may not be a totally accurate reflection of the tastes of American movie goers. Its pool of 2 237 adult respondents did not include representatives of the teenagers who make up a large proportion of ticket buyers and whose tastes may have veered to other actors such as Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman or Taylor Lautner.
The poll also exposed a shrinking pool of popular actresses, with both Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts dropping out of the top 10, leaving Sandra Bullock in seventh place as the only actress to make the top tier.
The other most popular actors named in the poll were George Clooney, in sixth spot, Harrison Ford (8th), Will Smith (9th) and Adam Sandler (10th).
