Katy, Russell arrive in India

Mumbai - British comedian-turned-Hollywood star Russell Brand and his American fiancée singer Katy Perry arrived in India on Wednesday, amid reports of their imminent wedding.

The couple touched down at Mumbai International Airport before catching an internal flight to the northern state of Rajasthan, where they will reportedly get married this weekend.

Brand, who was arrested last month for supposedly attacking a photographer at Los Angeles airport, and Perry were met by waiting media in India's financial and entertainment capital.

Perry, famous for hits including I Kissed a Girl and more recently California Gurls, tried to hide her face with her jacket while bodyguards attempted to shield the couple from the cameras.

Family and friends

They are reported to be getting married in a Hindu ceremony at the luxury Taj Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur on Saturday in front of family and friends.

The celebrations are also said to include a three-day safari in a tiger reserve and an outdoor desert festival.

Brand, 35, found fame as a comedian and later as a television and radio presenter. But he and fellow celebrity Jonathan Ross were sanctioned after making a lurid on-air prank call to the veteran actor Andrew Sachs.

Ross was suspended and Brand resigned but he has since made a name for himself in Hollywood in films including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek.

He was also in the 3D animation film Despicable Me that was released in the United States earlier this year.

Brand, a recovering drug and alcohol addict with a reputation as a womaniser, proposed to 25-year-old singer-songwriter Perry while on holiday in India at the start of the year.
