Los Angeles - Kylie Minogue and Will Smith have been lined up to carry the Olympic torch.

The Australian singer and the Hollywood actor are among a host of celebrities, including Jackie Chan and Pele, who will be tasked with carrying the 2012 flame around Britain in the lead up to the games in London this summer.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "This is one of the biggest events that Britain will ever host and only the biggest stars in the world will do.

We need people who are cultural icons in their own country to really make an impression and who better than these ambassadors?

The Torch Relay will be a real highlight to the Olympic campaign and with the calibre of people set to run it will be amazing."

'She's a busy girl'

They are not the only celebrities to get involved with the games, official ambassador David Beckham recently revealed he hopes his wife Victoria will reunite with her Spice Girls bandmates Mel B, Mel C, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton to open the ceremony this summer.

He said: "She's a busy girl. The Olympics mean a lot to me so I'd love her to be there. But I'm not sure I can exactly demand her to do it. I'll try. We'll have to see."

However, Victoria and the rest of the girls have denied plans they are reforming only admitting discussions had taken place.
