Lady A tops country award noms

Los Angeles - Lady Antebellum and newcomer Easton Corbin led the nominations on Monday for the first American Country Awards - the new awards show hosted by Fox TV and whose winners will be completely chosen by fans.

Grammy-winning trio Lady Antebellum and Corbin, who had a hit single with A Little More Country Than That, had seven nominations apiece, followed by former American Idol champion Carrie Underwood with six.

Lady Antebellum will compete in the artists of the year, album, and single category for Need You Now.

Corbin is one of the nominees for breakthrough artist, along with former American Idol contestant Danny Gokey.

The American Country Awards also include trophies for music videos and touring shows.

"Unlike any other country music award show, the 'American Country Awards' will give fans the power to choose all of the winners, which means the awards will reflect what America is listening to and watching right now," said executive producer Bob Bain.

Fans will be able to vote online at www.theacas.com and the awards will be presented in a live show from Las Vegas on December 6, broadcast on Fox.

The American Country Awards joins the ranks of three other award shows devoted only to country music - the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, and Country Music Television awards.
