Naomi Campbell honoured

London - Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been awarded a prize by the British Fashion Council in recognition of her influence on the fashion industry over the past 25 years.

The council says Campbell has been a "hugely influential ambassador for British fashion."

The star-studded awards ceremony at London's Savoy Hotel Tuesday opened with a film paying tribute to the late designer Alexander McQueen.

The four-time winner of the council's Designer of the Year prize, who took his own life in February, was given an award in honour of his career and his contribution to the global fashion industry.

Phoebe Philo, the creative director of Celine, was awarded Designer of the Year 2010. She was competing for the best designer prize against Christopher Kane and Erdem.
