Pippa faces charges over gun stunt

Cape Town - Scandalous photos of Pippa Middleton smiling as a friend waved a gun at chasing photographers have been published by The Sun, plunging the British royal family into a new scandal.

The photographs show Pippa and three male friends in an Audi A5 convertible. Pippa is seen in the front passenger seat while the driver points a semi-automatic pistol at a photographer following the vehicle.

Pippa, 27, and her friends are facing charges from French police, who are under pressure to find a serial killer currently terrorising the country.

According to The Sun, the Paris Judicial Police were poised to launch a probe - as a source revealed Pippa faces arrest amid a gun clampdown in France.

A source told The Sun: "If the evidence points to her involvement, she will be prosecuted. Anybody involved in the illegal use of a handgun in public is liable to arrest and interrogation."

The maximum jail term for brandishing a weapon in a public place is seven years "for all parties involved", The Sun reported.

Even if the gun were fake, the maximum jail sentence would be two years.

The French photographer said he was "considering his options" over pressing charges.

The fact that the incident took place in Paris and involved the paparazzi will be of particular significance to the royals.

Prince William's mother, Diana, was killed in a car crash in Paris after her car was pursued by paparazzi.
