Marseille - Police have arrested the main suspect in the theft a year ago of about 30 works of art, including a Picasso, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The artworks were stolen from a private home in southern France last year.
The suspect, an unemployed 25-year-old with a police record, was arrested late last week as he returned to France after a stay in Thailand, where he fled soon after the theft, the prosecutor's office in the city of Marseille said.
In December 2009, burglars stole 32 works of art worth a total of $667 000 from a private home in La Cadiere d'Azur, a medieval southern French village.
In June, police recovered 27 of the works in the southern town of La Ciotat. A drawing by Pablo Picasso, worth an estimated $240 200 was among them. Other works were by 20th Century artists from Provence.
Four other suspects have already been jailed in the case.
