Prince Albert: Runaway bride rumours untrue

Durban - Prince Albert II of Monaco on Friday rejected rumours that his new bride had tried to run away three times before the wedding last weekend, saying they were "completely fabricated".

"It's just to try to destabilise our marriage, it's very unfair," he told said in Durban.

Albert and his wife, South African Princess Charlene, had celebrated a second wedding party in Durban on Thursday.

A French magazine had reported that Charlene fled to Nice airport with the intention of returning to South Africa after learning something about Albert's private life, among other attempts. The palace had already denied the reports.

Albert has two illegitimate children - a 19-year-old daughter with an American woman and a seven-year-old son with a Togolese air hostess.

"The rumours are completely unfounded, that's why it's easy for me to talk about them," Albert said.

The couple married last Friday in Monaco in a civil ceremony, followed by a religious ceremony on Saturday.
