Royal wedding: 2bn viewers expected

London - About two billion people worldwide are expected to watch Prince William marry his fiancée Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey on April 29, the British culture secretary said on Wednesday.

Briefing cabinet ministers during their weekly meeting, Jeremy Hunt said the wedding "is likely to be a major global event viewed by around two billion people around the world", according to a government statement.

He added that with just over three weeks to go before the big day, "arrangements for the royal wedding are going well".

About 750 million people are estimated to have watched William's parents Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer marry in 1981, although accurate figures are hard to pin down.
