Twitter 'kills' Will Smith

Cape Town - Social networks were abuzz on Tuesday following rumours that American actor Will Smith had died on the set of his latest film in New Zealand.

According to the website Mediafetcher.com Smith fell to his death from a high cliff.

Huisgenoot reports that thousands of people on Twitter and Facebook asked for answers regarding Smith’s alleged death.

There was no reaction to the rumours on either Smith’s Facebook page or website. The last official update on his Facebook page had been made on Saturday morning.

This is the second time Smith has been the victim of such web-pranks – in 2009 it was reported that he had died in a motor accident.

Young singer Justin Bieber and actor Jackie Chan are but a few of the stars who have been “murdered” by Twitter in the past.
