The Hague - An Andy Warhol portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands fetched €400 000 on Tuesday when it went under the hammer in Amsterdam, the auctioneers Christie's said.
"The picture was sold for €409 000 to bidders from the Triton foundation", spokesperson Maarten van Gijn told AFP, referring to a Dutch body which organises exhibitions.
The 1985 portrait was part of a series by the late pop artist known as the Reigning Queens which also includes Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Queen Ntombi Twala Of Swaziland.
The portrait will go on display at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum, the spokesperson said.
