Willie Nelson sings for freedom

Los Angeles - Willie Nelson will sing for more than his supper.

The country music legend escaped jail time when the prosecutor in his marijuana possession case agreed to let him off with a fine and a performance.

The Daily Mail reports that Hudspeth County Attorney Kit Bramblett said: "I'm gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he's gotta sing Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain with his guitar right there in the courtroom."

Nelson was arrested in November when his tour bus was crossing the Mexican border into Hudspeth County, Texas on its way to Los Angeles when officers smelled marijuana.

After a police search, the 77-year-old musician admitted that the 170g of marijuana found was his.
