Wills, Kate give Land Rover away

London - Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton have donated one of their wedding gifts to charity.

The couple - who married in a lavish ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey in April - received a Mountain Rescue Team Land Rover as a present for their special day but generously passed on the vehicle to Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW).

MREW used the Land Rover as one of the top prizes in a special charity draw and the winners, the Patterdale team in the Lake District, then gave the wheels to the Glossop Mountain Rescue Team.

Thank everyone

Keith Montgomery of the Glossop Mountain Rescue Team said: "The vehicle will be greatly appreciated. Our present vehicle only has a shelf life of about six months and we were embarking on a major fundraising exercise to raise the funds needed to replace it."

This is not the first time charities have benefitted from William's and Kate's wedding. The couple donated money received in lieu of wedding presents to causes in the UK and abroad, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand earlier this year.

A royal spokesperson said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted these charities are able to benefit so positively from their special day.

"They would like to thank everyone who donated and contributed so generously to the charitable fund and for all the kindness and support shown to them throughout the wedding period."
