Cape Town – Prince William has released a statement via The Telegraph approving of how Prince Harry revealed his relationship with Meghan Markle.
Reports from Daily Mail and The Sun on Saturday said Prince William was unhappy with his brother’s decision to reveal his relationship status via a plea for internet trolls to stop harassing Meghan, however this is untrue.
The Duke of Cambridge himself confirmed that he agreed with Harry’s approach to stop internet trolls from harassing his girlfriend.
The statement said: “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”
A royal source then told The Telegraph the family do not issue statements without discussing the matter extensively and without considering all their options.
The royal source said: “They don't issue statements like that without talking to each other, and they talked about the Meghan Markle statement extensively in advance of it being put out.
“The Duke was as alarmed as anyone about what was happening with Meghan.
“No-one wanted to have to put that statement out, including Prince Harry, and there was concern about confirming the relationship.
“But over the course of one weekend things escalated to the extent that Prince Harry felt he had to act.”
Prince William himself has only ever made one public statement about his love life when his staff denied he was in a relationship with his friend Jecca Craig shortly before he began dating his now wife, Kate Middleton.
