5FM bids farewell to Grant and Anele

2012-02-23 09:44
Cape Town -  An official statement has been released by 5FM following the news that popular DJ Anele Mdoda will be leaving the station.

According to 5FM, Grant Nash and Anele, who currently hosts the 12:00 to 15:00 slot, have decided to move on.

Here follows the full and unedited text of the statement:

5FM announces the end of radio duo Grant and Anele.

The popular pair, who have been a radio twosome since their university radio days, have decided to part ways. Grant, an avid Buddhist and vegan, is retiring from radio in order to further himself spiritually and Anele is joining another broadcaster.

Says Anele, "5FM is only for the fearless. I am glad they even let me through the door. I’ve learnt so much and become so much more because of the brand. Thank you for that."

Adds Grant, "It was always a dream of mine to work for 5FM. That dream came true. I’m eternally grateful for all that made this a reality. I can only hope my spiritual journey will be filled with as many helping hands and loving hearts."

Grant and Anele will reveal more regarding their plans on The Grant & Anele Show today between 12:00 -15:00.

Says 5FM’s station manager Aisha Mohamed, "5FM has enjoyed an amazing four years with Grant and Anele. Their dedication and commitment to the station has been commendable. 5FM’s line-up changes will come into effect on 1 April 2012. We’re excited about the new line-up and will be announcing what listeners can expect on 1 March 2012 live on 5FM."

Talk about having faces for radio! Anele, please do not go to Highveld, I actually enjoy that station.

      oh my!!lol

      Citroes - 2012-02-23 11:03

This is probably the best news since we won the 2007 rugby world cup. I've turned 5 off completely and listen to Tuks FM streamed because I simply cannot have these guys ruin every day of my week.

      Rudolph - 2012-02-23 11:09

@Freddie, Ian F was substituting for Popi this week, how awesome was that?? Wish it could stay like this.

      str4f3 - 2012-02-23 11:32

YAY! I'd almost stopped listening to 5fm during the day cause of them, they have been pathetically bad radio dj's scince we were in varsity. I wish Anele the best, she's at least a nice person. But Grant... and have nothing nice to say about him... that guy is messed up.

      goyougoodthing - 2012-02-23 12:29

I am finally thankful of something. Two bowls of stupid those too.

      Nick - 2012-02-23 14:18

Not a nice thing to say Freddie... Rather wish them well in their respective journey's forward... To Grant - all the best in your Spiritual Journey mate - you will find many Loving Hearts and Helping Hands.. :) May you create for yourself great Joy.. :) To Anele - Hamba Kahle suga - and all the best at the new station! :)

      Xhanti - 2012-02-23 13:07

Stick to listening to RSG! It IS your home...

  • wesley.bischoff - 2012-02-23 10:20

Anele is cool and funny. Grant is a bit of a troll, what he says on air sometimes doesn't make sense, or he just says stupid things. But... good luck with their future endeavours :-)

  • Moss - 2012-02-23 10:39

Buy one get one free, they are forever in pair ....good for them

  • Roger - 2012-02-23 10:39

  • wcslater - 2012-02-23 10:48

"5FM’s line-up changes will come into effect on 1 April 2012" This better not be an early April Fool's joke!!

  • Tough - 2012-02-23 10:52

  • Duncan Thabiso Mphailane - 2012-02-23 11:04

Who else must leave for you to be really happy? Let me take a guess... Fresh, Euphonic and Poppy? Who did I forget to mention?

      richard.hipkin - 2012-02-23 12:50

Well if you stop commenting it would be a start! ;)

      Chris - 2012-02-23 13:45

5fm's choice in DJ's have proven that being useless extends beyond race and gender.

      eric.vanvuuren - 2012-02-23 16:57

      Hi Arrie

      Malette - 2012-03-01 14:33

Thomas and those 2 other chicks can leave next please. (Dudu and someone?) It's not about race, Duncan, it's about talent. (Or specifically, lack of it.) How can you play the race card when all us whities are EQUALLY overjoyed that Grant is leaving. Plus I really don't mind Fresh's show, and last time I checked the brother was black. WTF??? If you have a point, please make it. Pffft.

  • Schalk - 2012-02-23 11:07

"Cape Town - An official statement has been released by 5FM following the news that popular DJ Anele Mdoda will be leaving the station." Excuse me? Popular? Hold the phone... I have started listening to RSG in the afternoon because of these two. Don't get me wrong RGS is god honest radio station but it ain't no 5FM lunch show of yesteryear. I recall a lineup of professionals to see you through your work day such as Ian F (Afternoon time slot) and Alex Jay (brunch time slot), not these utter media nitwits. Since they started polluting the airways on 5FM I have not heard one person say that they enjoyed the "Grant & Anele show". So yes, good riddance to bad rubbish!

  • Matt - 2012-02-23 11:10

    Awesome - - Good news - - Probably the worst d.j duo ever ! ! ! !

  • Jan - 2012-02-23 11:14

This is probably the best news since we won the 2007 rugby world cup. I simply cannot have these guys ruin every week day of my week.

      kwill16 - 2012-02-23 11:21

Good news, the bad news is Anele will be spoiling some other station or even TV

  • Brett - 2012-02-23 11:24

Best news I've heard all day

      Forsythe - 2012-02-23 11:31

took the words right out of my mouth.

  • Lufuno - 2012-02-23 11:27

    Good Riddance...!!

  • Nkosinathi - 2012-02-23 11:30

Thanks god they both leaving, what a pair of saggy tits their are! Anele, please do the right thing and retire, hope Poppy and KB also retires, just as irritating.

  • megsforster - 2012-02-23 11:50

OH NOOOOOOO!!!!! That is awful!!!!!! Grant and Anele have the best show on 5FM! I loved listening to them! This may be the final reason to switch radio stations - Cannot take Gareth any longer (pity cos the rest of the team are fantastic). That means the only show left worth listening to is Fresh!

      richard.hipkin - 2012-02-23 12:51

There is Roger Goode and Milkshake and Erica Elle... brilliant shows..

  • Andre - 2012-02-23 11:59

That is the best news ever. Now I can listen to radio again over lunch

  • Darron - 2012-02-23 12:09

miracles do happen. now i don't have to change stations @ 12h00... thank heavens i don't live in jozie... feel it! good riddance -.l..

  • Pat - 2012-02-23 12:25

    Lucky 5fm, unlucky Highveld

  • martin.gee.godfrey - 2012-02-23 13:04

Now all they need to do is change the program director and find someone who is not a slave to the crap music they dish out on rotation show after show.

  • Eugene - 2012-02-23 13:08

    There Is a God!

  • Murechen - 2012-02-23 13:14

Thank God. They should work on the Fresh & Poppy show next. Get rid of both of them

  • Rudolph - 2012-02-23 13:28

if you're in JHB, tune into Highveld - Ian F is hosting the slot until Popi is back. When she's back next week, you can go back to whatever station it is you listen to.

  • Tyrone - 2012-02-23 13:29

    good riddance to bad rubbish!

  • Silvana - 2012-02-23 13:52

Sooo, 5FM do seem to know what they're doing after all.

  • nicole.deaguiar - 2012-02-23 13:52

Now, we just have to git rid of Poppy and KB and life will be perfect!!

  • Mohsin - 2012-02-23 14:07

NOOOOO! Y DONT THEY GO TO KAYA FM RATHER MAN! FAT CHICK AND GAY GUY ON HIVELD IS BAD MAN! NOOIT!

  • jacques.h.kirchner - 2012-02-23 14:24

I grew up on 5FM and this is real good news...Good, solid DJ's (like Ian F & not to mention Alex Jay) were bombed a couple of years ago and they were replaced with blabbering fools! Not a big fan of these two. Got to agree that Fresh's show is the highlight of the 5FM day. Old stallwart Sasha is also pleasant to listen to.

  • Hannes - 2012-02-23 14:36

great news... now i can actually listen to 5fm at lunch... now instead of Sasha leaving why not give him his 12 - 3 back!!!

  • Amy - 2012-02-23 14:52

    IS GARETH CLIFF NEXT??

      kerrimg - 2012-02-23 15:12

      hope so :-)

  • Nigel - 2012-02-23 15:06

    Fantastic -They are a pain!

  • kerrimg - 2012-02-23 15:10

Anele is going to 94.7 to take over the afternoon show that Mark Pilgrim and Bailey was doing. Mark will still be at 94.7 doing the the top 40 on saturday but bailey contract is not renewed.

  • Annette - 2012-02-23 15:14

Grant and Anele you will be missed,I think u guys are great, and ignore all the negative twats. Good luck for ur future endeavours maybe Anele you can come to CT and do 94.5 KFM . Good luck

  • Riaan - 2012-02-23 15:15

Thank you Lord for this great news !!!! those two sucked from day one. And yes please stay away from 94.7 !!!

  • Darryl - 2012-02-23 15:21

  • Idont - 2012-02-23 15:24

makes one question why so many guys are leaving in such a short space of time...? Restructuring?

  • karen.morrice - 2012-02-23 15:28

Love the two of them! Gutted to hear they're splitting and going separate ways!! Sad.com

  • Ismail - 2012-02-23 16:13

Media24 should just buy 5FM, No other radio station gets this much news&publicity ...

  • therealunskinny - 2012-02-23 17:56

    AWESOME NEWS! Bye bye dumb-dumber.

  • Winsome - 2012-02-23 19:50

"Popular"???? I wonder. Now, get rid of Gareth Cliff and perhaps more people would tune in to 5fm.

  • Pieter - 2012-02-24 10:24

Hurrah.... the reason I now listen to JCW on 702 They never fully grasped what it is to be 5FM DJ's Actually 5FM might have screwed it up, there numbers must be down, with all the Varsity Radio stations,JacarandaFM etc etc...5FM into the abyss, bring back Cleoni Cassidy, Zuraida Jardine, get real quality voices back on air

  • Malette - 2012-03-01 14:27

Ja praat nou asseblief eerder daagliks met mekaar k*k oor die telefoon. You really do not have to do it on live radio.

  • mandy.wattam - 2012-04-22 14:18

How sad the most entertaining, enlightened and amusing duo on South African radio are without a doubt Grant and Anele. I hope they will be equally great as individuals...
