5FM replaces Sasha with campus jock

Johannesburg - Youth radio station 5FM has announced that Rob Forbes will be the new face and voice behind weekday mornings, hosting the 9:00 to 12:00 show. He replaces Sasha Martinengo who was axed after 17 years on air.

Sasha's sidekick and newsreader Kim Schulze will join Rob Vember, who takes over the the 12:00 to 15:00 slot from Anele Mdoda and Grant Nash, who are also leaving 5FM.

The new DJ line-up will come into effect on April 1.

Rob, a well-known voice-over artist, makes his national radio debut after nearly eight years at campus radio station Tuks FM.

'Years of hard work'

"At campus radio I hosted everything from the Top 30 to the afternoon drive show and more recently the breakfast show for the last three years," says Rob about his new gig.

"I'm incredibly excited to be joining the team at 5FM. It's an absolute dream come true for me and it represents the culmination of years of hard work. The opportunity to be able to 'live' a brand like 5FM is an immense privilege and I cannot wait to share my own relaxed, fun and informative style on the new 9:00-12:00 show."

Joining Rob behind the mic will be show contributor Fikile 'Fix' Moeti, who returns to 5FM after an 18-month gap to pursue her studies overseas.

"5FM will always be family to me," says Fix.

"For the last year I've been overseas studying business entrepreneurship at an arts campus in America. I can't tell you how glad I am to be back home. I'm very excited to be working with Rob Forbes."

Popular DJ Poppy Ntshongwana will host a new Sunday evening show from 17:00-19:00, featuring music that's "familiar and nostalgic" as well as old school hits and Top 40 songs.
