5FM keeps Gareth, DJ Fresh shows

2012-03-01 10:27
Cape Town - Youth music radio station 5fM announced changes to its DJ line-up on Thursday.

There weren't many surprises when the station made public the changes to their DJ line-up. Listeners can expect to hear from the same personalities that they have gotten used to, but now in different time-slots.

House music DJ Roger Goode will once more feature when he takes control of a new 19:00-22:00 show. He will replace Rob Vember who is staying with the station in a different role.

Ulti-mix: Weekend

According to a statement released by the station: "Roger will be joined by 5FM’s 'Zulu Maiden' Angie Khumalo who moves from 12:00-15:00 to join Roger as a show contributor."

The Ultimate Mix @6 on DJ Fresh's Afternoon Drive will become its own stand-alone show with DJ Euphonik as the host.

The show will now be called Ulti-mix: Weekend edition which will air every Saturday from 19:00-22:00.

The Morning Show with Gareth Cliff as well as the Afternoon Drive remains the same.

However, the station has not yet announced the remainder of the line-up. This means that there has not been any news on who will replace the likes of Sasha Martinengo, Anele Mdoda and Grant Nash who have announced their departure.

All the changes to 5FM's line-up take effect on April 1 and more announcements will be made on March 8.

    5Fm is just getting boring

      planetdonovan - 2012-03-01 12:00

that's a sign of your own age and not the radio station.

      Trevor - 2012-03-01 12:04

Justin is right, and has nothing to do with age, 5FM no longer controls the airways and competition is stiff, they trying very hard to cover all bases and that is their problem.

      wesleywt - 2012-03-01 12:10

Actually a lot of the people who they are targeting say the same. Their music is crap at any age.

That's bad news that I might have to hear more of Roger Goode. Can he just clear his throat or change the way he speaks? It's very irritating.

      richard.hipkin - 2012-03-07 09:55

You would only know that if you listen to him..

  • Warrick - 2012-03-01 11:17

Whos replacing Sasha Martinengo? He's the only dj I actually enjoy listening to

  • Cris - 2012-03-01 11:18

Do people still listen to music radio?I mean is not easy just to download and then play your own beats?

  • Gary - 2012-03-01 11:38

5fm is horrible especially Goode. Been listening to his live sets and all the music he must have at his disposal his sets are simply boring, far to commercial and no thougtht seems to be put into them. Suppose working with a radio station like 5fm where they tell you what to play can only promote complacincy. There is so much happening in the dance scene at the moment he rocks out remixes of pretty woman, was absolutly horrified when i heard his set at H20. They dont need the advertisng that bad that he needs to play there...

So rob vember (aka capatin obvious) will be moving to a daytime slot. Oh dear. The regional stations must be rubbing their hands in glee.

  • Amy - 2012-03-01 13:02

Ah, i thought Gareth would go!

  • Charmaine - 2012-03-01 13:21

5fm's music has been crap since they told DJ's what they must play and how many times, local radio stations are just as crap that is why I listen to internet radio at least there you don't have the same sone played to death and the DJ's are a lot less irritating, only DJ left I like is Fresh.

  • Malette - 2012-03-01 14:20

Grant and Anele are leaving? PARTY AT MY PLACE!!!

  • Tracy - 2012-03-01 14:44

They also becoming just as bad as some of the other local radio stations by playing the same song at least twice a day and sometime that same song gets played the next day AT THE SAME TIME!!!!

  • cherry.burchell - 2012-03-01 15:04

Fresh is the only reason to listen to 5FM; that laugh makes your toes curl with pleasure. The Gareth-let-me-be-self-indulgent-and-pontificate-on-things-I-know-nothing-about show would not be missed. Sorry to see Sasha go too.

      sasha.martinengo1 - 2012-03-01 21:02

      Thank you

      Denise - 2012-03-01 21:12

Damn Sasha, you will be missed. Visit LM Radio sometime. If they get it right with SA broadcast rights they will soon be a force to be reckoned with.

  • Rob - 2012-03-01 17:30

"All the changes to 5FM's line-up take effect on April 1": well, that about sums it up. Cheers Sash after 17 years, things can only get better!

      sasha.martinengo1 - 2012-03-01 21:02

      thanks rob :)

  • craig.odonoghue - 2012-03-01 23:52

    Sahsa 1-0 5Fm

  • kobus.bezuidenhout - 2012-03-02 06:36

Good luck Sasha; your energy and class will be missed!

  • Avril - 2012-03-02 08:39

Getting rid of Sasha was pure insanity. What the hell are they thinking? Grant and what's her face, yes. Their show was one big yawn...

  • Vincent - 2012-03-08 09:45

Sasha will be missed but thank goodness the 2 best shows are still there. Gareth Cliff and DJ Fresh both incredible.

  • Dakey - 2012-03-30 12:57

A shame Cliff remains. I've stopped listening to 5FM altogether a couple of years back. From a music point of view I don't particularly like hip hop, so I guess I just don't fit their demographic.

  • Annelise de Wet - 2014-04-29 23:08

No more listening to 5FM for me.
