5FM voted coolest radio station

Cape Town – Youth radio station 5FM has been voted Coolest Radio Station in the 2012 Sunday Times Generation Next Brand Survey Awards.

The survey, conducted by HDI Youth Marketers on behalf of the Sunday Times, rated 5FM ahead of MetroFM, YFM, Highveld Stereo and Ukhozi FM.

Station manager Aisha Mohamed was thrilled with the latest accolade.

"This has been the most amazing year for 5FM. Our station has seen some of the highest listenership figures to date and to receive so much recognition both internationally and at home has left us feeling humbled and excited," she said.

Coolest TV soapie

The 5 500 South Africans, aged between eight and 22 years of age, who took part in the survey also said that SABC drama Generations was the Coolest TV Soap.

It beat out Rhythm City, 7de Laan, Isidingo and Muvhango, which made up the rest of the top 5.

Comedian Trevor Noah was voted Coolest Local Celebrity ahead of Zahara, DJ Cleo, Big Nuz and AKA, while rapper Lil Wayne was the Coolest International Celebrity, followed by more music artists Nicki Minaj, Drake, Adele and Chris Brown.

The results of the youth survey also revealed that DStv music channel Trace was the Coolest TV Channel, Dragon Ball Z was the Coolest TV Show, and brands such as Blackberry, Nike, FNB and Vodacom were all favoured above other brands in various categories.
