7de Laan actor's tragic loss

Stellenbosch – A scream followed by a splash sound when something hit the water.

This is how an eyewitness, Carin Bothma, described the tragic events that took the life of 14-year-old Kieran Schultz on Saturday to Beeld.

Kieran, the son of 7de Laan actor Waldemar Schultz, fell to his death from a 20m cliff on Sunday at the Ou Hawe in Hermanus.

Waldemar Schultz is best known for his role as Jan-Hendrik Terreblanche in the popular Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan.

According to Bothma she heard Kieran's friend, Gustav Eichstädt – who was with him at the lookout point, calling for help.

Kieran had climbed over a small wall when his foot slipped. He tried to grab hold of a branch, but fell about 20 metres into shallow water.

Emergency personnel were on the scene within 5 minutes, but Kieran passed away at the hospital due to serious head injuries.

Schultz, who was in Hermanus to perform at the Kalfiefees, was having lunch with a friend at the nearby restaurant when the incident occurred.
