Potchefstroom – The production Janneman, by award-winning director Hennie van Greunen, is the most popular production at the Clover Aardklop festival, ticket sales have shown.
My Naam/My name is Ellen Pakkies, directed by Lizz Meiring and with Vinette Ebrahim in the lead role, came second.
Janneman actors Franci Swanepoel and Hannah Borthwick together with assistant director Pedro Kruger received the People's Choice Award at the Aardklop hospitality tent.
This is the third year that producer WordSmith's Factory Theatre walks away with the prize.
Janneman was also named most popular production at the KKNK and Volksblad Vryfees earlier this year.
"The golden recipe with Janneman is that it tells a story for the people. The production does an excellent job of getting the television viewer in the theatre," said Kruger.
According to Aardklop programme manager Marguerite Robinson, the prize is determined in terms of ticket sales and venue capacity. "Janneman and My name is Ellen Pakkies were head to head, but Janneman proved itself as the most popular production."
Tlokwe City Council handed a check of R5 000 to the production team.
