Johannesburg – Amor Vittone is adamant that she "never, ever" urged people to put pressure on the radio station to hire her back.
The station announced a month ago that Amor’s contract as guest host will not be renewed after July 3.
“After that I received many queries from my fans on Twitter asking why I had left Jacaranda… I then tweeted that management at Jacaranda 94.2 did not renew my contract due to the negative publicity surrounding Joost. It is the honest truth. What was I supposed to say? Should I have lied?
“Then someone started spreading the rumour on Facebook that I was rousing my fans to put pressure on Jacaranda to take me back. This is ridiculous and not true at all. Of course I was a little sad when Jacaranda did not renew my contract, but the show must go on. I accepted it as such.’
However, head of communication at Jacaranda 94.2 Jenny Griesl said on Monday that the publicity surrounding van der Westhuizen played no part in the decision to let Vittone go. “It was merely a decision that was based on normal changes in programming schedules and that of the hosts. In any case we cannot exclude the possibility that Amor might be asked to host a show again in the future, because she is very talented.
Griesel said that she is unaware of any pressure being put on the station because of the contract.
