André Brink makes Booker Prize list

Cape Town – South African author André Brink has been included in the long list of nominees for the 2012 Man Booker Prize.

Brink was nominated for the prestigious prize for his new book Philida, which will be released in September by publisher Harvill Secker.

The writer was previously shortlisted for the Booker for his two novels An Instant in the Wind  (1976) and Rumours of Rain  (1978).

Philida a historical novel set in South Africa that tells of a slave woman's relationship with her white master's son.

Malaysian author Tan Twan Eng, who is currently based in Cape Town, was also nominated for his book The Garden of Evening Mists.

The shortlist will be announced on 11 September and the eventual winner revealed on 16 October.
