Pretoria – Afrikaans singer Bobby van Jaarsveld and his wife Annatjie have welcomed a baby boy on Monday.
Their first child, Sion van Jaarsveld was born via ceasarian and weighed in at 3.3kg according to Bobby who tweeted shortly after the baby boy was born.
Bobby tweeted: "SION VAN JAARSVELD is born! He is my son, praise Your name! I don’t know this feeling."
Bobby's sister Karlien van Jaarsveld also tweeted the happy news saying: "Sion is born!! Big head like a hotel cat! 1 down 9 to go!!!!! Congratulations, brother!!!"
Karlien also thanked fans who have sent messages of well wishes and congratulations adding: "Thank you for all your tweets! So sweet! Sion is healthy and strong, he’s already had a good cry and his dad as well! @bobbyvjaarsveld is so proud"
Bobby's mother Ronel Brink tweeted the following picture of Bobby just before he went into the operating room with Annatjie.
Bobby told Huisgenoot that the baby’s name means "to reach your highest calling, to stand strong as a mountain, and also 'heavenly'. The name comes from the mountain Sion (Zion) in the Bible".
