Cape Town -  Dancer and choreographer Angelo Collins has denied he intentionally misled the nation by claiming he was part of the team that worked on American superstar Beyoncé Knowles' music video Run The World (Girls).

The dancer, who had a cameo role in the soapie Backstage, was on the TV gossip show Real Gobhoza.

"I was the main contact for this thing. They called me two days before the time, so I had sleepless nights getting dancers.

"Fortunately, I knew a lot of people in New York. So I gave the guy a lot of contacts, and they sent me video clips back and forth. That was how it basically worked, you know," Collins is heard saying in the clip.

But in an exclusive interview with City Press in May, the two dancers who perform Pantsula with Knowles said they were the ones who taught the superstar her moves.

And according to Knowles’ longtime choreographer, Frank Gatson jnr, it was himself, Sheryl Murakami and the two Mozambican dancers from the group Tofo Tofo who did the choreography.

"We prepared a lot for it. We had seen something on YouTube.

"We had seen these guys from Africa, this Mozambique African dance troupe.

Misunderstood

"I feel like we really nailed it and, again, hat’s off to the Tofo Tofo guys [from Africa], because none of us could imitate that. We had to bring them around to learn that move, which is really, really interesting. They had such a great vocabulary of movement," Gatson told MTV.

This week Collins said his comments on Real Gobhoza had been misunderstood and that he’d been asked by a contact to "help in getting a South African cast together for the music video".

"Colin [the contact] called me two days before the shoot of the video and asked me if I knew any dancers that they could use for the music video based in New York. In the end they didn't use the South African dancers but mostly chose Mozambicans to be part of the video," he said.

Mario Buce and Xavier Campione, the two dancers from Mozambique, said they had been flown to Los Angeles to shoot the video.

"She’s a very good dancer and caught on very quickly," said Campione.

"Throughout she was very friendly and kind, even though there were some communication problems because she doesn’t understand Portuguese. But she learnt anyway," he said.
