Nelspruit - Aspirant Mpumalanga radio DJs now have the chance to audition for their very own slot on radio.

Vodacom and Mpumalanga commercial radio station MpowerFM, based in Nelspruit, are hosting the Top Jock competition which first took place in 2008.

"We've decided to take the competition to the next level. This year we will have judges coming from within the radio industry," said MpowerFM marketing manager, Louisa van Wyk.

This year's judges will include MpowerFM managing director, Kevin Savage, and TV personality and well-known musician, Ed Jordan.

Two auditions will be held, one in Emalahleni (formerly Witbank) on August 15 at the Highveld Mall and on August 22 at Riverside Mall in Nelspruit.

Listeners able to vote for their favourite

Listeners across the province will be able to vote for their favourite jock from the five finalists who will be chosen at the auditions.

The winner will be announced at the beginning of September at Mpower's Nelspruit studio. The new jock will be treated to a breakfast where he, or she, will get to meet all the station's presenters.

"The winner will also get a cash prize, a contract to work for MPowerFM and a Vodacom contract. The Top Jock will also get the opportunity to co-host the Saturday morning countdown with 2008 Top Jock winner, Miguel Proenca," said Van Wyk.

Proenca said that he will always be grateful to MPowerFM and Vodacom for the opportunity he was given last year.

"It has been an unbelievable journey since winning Top Jock 2008 in August last year," said Proenca. "I've been able to establish myself as a radio presenter and DJ," he added.

Entry forms will be available on MPowerFM's website, or from the Emalahleni studio from August 10 and the Nelspruit studio from August 17. Forms will also be available on the day of the auditions.
