FHM model tweets about bribe

2012-05-23 08:01
Cape Town - Another model has landed herself in hot water, this time for bragging on Twitter about bribing a Johannesburg metro police officer, the Cape Times reported on Wednesday.

FHM model Sabina Essa posted a message reading: "Just got out of a R2500 fine for going 140 in a 60 zone. R30! Bwahahahaha. I LOVE JMPD."

When another Twitter user asked whether she had offered the bribe, she responded with: "I didn't offer, dumb-ass. They asked what I had. Of course, I'm gonna take the offer".

Her comments caught the attention of Justice Project SA CEO Howard Dembovsky, who was horrified that someone could boast about a bribe, and that police officers had not arrested her for a serious offence.

Tweeting for attention

According to the newspaper, he contacted Essa to reprimand her. She apparently told him she posted the tweet for "some attention" from her followers.

Dembovsky said she then panicked about the consequences the tweet would have for her and her planned career as an attorney.

After their discussion, she tweeted: "So sorry for my tweet. I fabricated the story to attract attention, we sometimes all do it and [I am] superembarassed".

Two models, Tshidi Thamana and Jessica Leandra dos Santos, came under fire recently for their racial spat on the same social media site. They have since apologised.

Who do you think is at fault here - the model or the JMPD? E-mail us your thoughts and opinions and you could be published.

wonder who is the dumb ass??? hmmm!!! its true what they say models no brains just air... and in this case she didnt even use the few pumpkin seeds she had left over.... or is it a case of attention seeking...

      Chris - 2012-05-23 08:56

Although between the model and the traffic cop it must have been a close call to decide who the weakest link was.

      Rob - 2012-05-23 09:12

Another one who has just F@@ked her career up!!

      Bryan - 2012-05-23 09:17

Maybe someone needs to send her a stupid sign...

      Christopher - 2012-05-23 09:27

I am sorry but I would rather pay the R30 bucks than the R 2500. But I would not have drivven like an idiot in the first place.

      James - 2012-05-23 09:34

how pathetic!!! just about everyone bribes them!!! but let someone famous do it and its an issue??? this country has more important things to worry about seriously!!!

      celia.coates - 2012-05-23 10:03

...mmm and she wants to be a lawyer? I don't think so.

      ilsa.sonnemann - 2012-05-23 13:43

James, are you serious? Bribery & corruption is the reason our country is the way it is!

      Squeegee - 2012-05-23 16:02

James supports bribery and corruption. James, who do you think is going to hire you or Christopher? Especially when both your last names are on your Facebook pages...

      Stirrer - 2012-05-23 16:58

True... Models are not models because of their IQ's. If they had any brains they would have had a degree and a steady job.

      GrootWitHaai - 2012-05-23 18:39

But isn't bribery a natural process at every roadblock? Hulloooooo.

      Jacques - 2012-05-23 20:50

Nothing dumb about her, in her younger days she was THEE best female Counter-Strike player/gamer in South Africa. She was also good at hacking ADSL routers.

      Karolina - 2012-05-24 07:57

@Jacques - I dont think you are doing her any favours by revealing that she is a thief as well! Hacking ADSL routes???? Just in case you didn't know...that's theft...you are taking something that is not yours and you didn't pay for it. Soooo - she's corrupt, she lies and she's a thief !!

  • lebogang.molefo - 2012-05-23 08:28

Don't these models ever learn *SMH*

      Tuco - 2012-05-23 14:19

One of the prereqs to be a model is that you have to be as stupid as possible.

  • sbudesh1 - 2012-05-23 08:29

We all know by now that models have nothing in their brains, they only think about 2 things, their beauty and not eating.

  • maggsie - 2012-05-23 08:37

not a very bright spark. Not painting a good picture of models, they are now being viewed as air heads more than anything.

  • romeo.sehako - 2012-05-23 08:38

    Idiot

  • Preshen - 2012-05-23 08:38

    Epic Fail

  • Nicholas - 2012-05-23 08:39

What would the media do nowadays without twitter!!

      luvuko - 2012-05-23 14:07

Agreed nicholas. All a journalist has to do now is just sit in front of his/her computer and go through facebok and fwitter, copy and paste a post, and bada bing bada bang we've got ourselves a story.

      Merven - 2012-05-24 08:42

Imagine a journalist actually going out to get a story!

  • Alan - 2012-05-23 08:41

She has just proves that models don't have much in the way of brains! Im suprised shes studying to be a lawyer

  • ockert.j.dupreez - 2012-05-23 08:41

Third model in a month, doing something stupid. Just shows how incredibly stupid they are...

  • Dianne - 2012-05-23 08:44

    Dumb, stupid and obviously blonde!

  • aspruyt - 2012-05-23 08:46

So much hoohah about the model. What the real issue is here is the corrupt JMPD and the fact that everyone knows they try fish for bribes left right and center. Corrupt and incompetent fools.

  • Bernice - 2012-05-23 08:47

I cannot believe that anybody can be so DUMB. How on earth did she think she can TWEET about something that is such a touchy subject as it is and presume to get away with it. Gosh beauty but no brains.

  • Helen - 2012-05-23 08:50

guess she was getting her make up done on the day they were handing out brains to everyone else!!!

  • Stille - 2012-05-23 08:51

Hope you drive headlong into a bus for traveling that fast in a 60 zone you pathetic bimbo. Arrest her for corruption.

  • Michelle - 2012-05-23 08:54

I suppose the "all beauty and no brains" saying seems to be quite a fitting description of the last three models who have made twits of themselves on twitter!

      Karolina - 2012-05-23 09:19

not really sure if the 'all beauty' even comes into it...seems like anyone who'e had a photoshoot can all themselves a model...

  • attie.snyders - 2012-05-23 08:54

    When will people ever learn.

      khanyisa.pakela - 2012-05-23 09:19

what can we do about all these stupid gals out there?

  • Garth - 2012-05-23 08:57

For those who think she is brainless please consider: 1. She dodged a speeding fine. 2. She increased her public awareness. 3. She was able to explain the whole issue away.. I think this young lady is pretty sharp, probably sharper than the average spear!

      PumaFred - 2012-05-23 09:07

130 in a 60 zone. Just that proves how stupid she is

      PumaFred - 2012-05-23 09:08

130 in a 60 zone. Just that proves how stupid she is

      mbossenger - 2012-05-23 11:28

Garth - So do you condone her behaviour?

      Natasha - 2012-05-23 12:37

At last someone with a positive slant, poor kid. How many times did we do stupid things in our early youth? How many testosterone driven 18-year olds drive their daddy's car to where the speedometer screams for help? Come on. She's being human.

  • Sango - 2012-05-23 08:57

i give up some models are dumb, someone plz arrest this full.

      Garth - 2012-05-23 09:01

For someone who points fingers calling others dumb.. May I point out the spelling fool and not full..

      Sango - 2012-05-23 09:29

Garth thank you for correcting my spelling have you ever thought of being a teacher you will make a great one.

  • Rishaal - 2012-05-23 08:58

ITS NOT HER FAULT. SHE'S A MODEL.BRAINS ARENT A PREREQUISITE.

  • AdeleFHM - 2012-05-23 09:01

Just because 3 models made stupid mistakes doesn't mean ALL models have no brains. This is however very DUMB and I will never ever even think twice about it

      heiku.staude - 2012-05-23 09:31

You are correct. Only FHM models have limited brain capacity. :)

      Leon - 2012-05-23 09:37

I support your comment Adele, and not just because you are beautiful! :) But this wasn’t very smart of her, think before you Tweet! You won’t catch me Tweeting about my plans to rob that Bank tomorrow, oops! :)

      eil33nn - 2012-05-23 11:19

Agreed, but *facepalm* you can't blame stereotyping

      Natzi - 2012-05-23 15:11

Thank you adele! People need to stop with the comment 'models are dumb' not all models behave this way & i'm pretty sure a lot of the public has done something just as bad! infact if you actually go and look a lot of models have degrees!

  • Zimbobwe - 2012-05-23 09:06

The curse of twitter and facebook. Now she is famous for being a dumb-ass. Apologise afterwards and everything will be honky-dory. The reward is she is now in the papers and everybody knows about the idiot and ugly Sabina Essa!!!

  • Marcelle - 2012-05-23 09:06

    A special kind of stupid.

  • Prosper - 2012-05-23 09:11

What is it about Twitter and these dumb beauties lol!

  • sueelen.vdwalt - 2012-05-23 09:13

Hoe freakin stupid kan jy wees om dit te doen en nog dit te tweet ook, all looks and no brains.........

      Nyiks11 - 2012-05-23 15:59

      what looks ?

  • jacques.rautenbach - 2012-05-23 09:14

I can no longer be quit... What the hell gives anyone the right to reprimand or prosecute over Social Media? Does nobody understand what the use of Social Media is? It's personal peer to peer blog for friends and supporters, not for our weak leadership to easily prosecute people, i think it's absolutely silly. Social Media rocks, long live freedom of speech

      heiku.staude - 2012-05-23 09:33

Pro tip: Different things can mean different things to different people.

  • Nockx - 2012-05-23 09:15

Dumb-a$$ model. FHM must run IQ tests before hiring this models to avoid future incidents like this

  • Karolina - 2012-05-23 09:16

She should be a great lawyer one day...she breaks the law and then lies to cover it up.

  • paddy.nolan.14 - 2012-05-23 09:16

    Nice tits............

  • Riana - 2012-05-23 09:16

I dont think its got anything to do with the fact that she is a model, more because she wants more followers and attention on her twitter page.

  • Loo - 2012-05-23 09:19

NOT the sharpest knife in the bread basket ,, all I can say

  • Bless Boswell - 2012-05-23 09:20

I am all for free speech, but to brag about something that is of so much concern in this country is asinine. What this shows us that the public are as vrot as the cops, and that makes me sad. Doing the right thing is sometimes very hard, but unless we do, there is no hope. Sabina you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • janinekittyb - 2012-05-23 09:21

stick to getting your photos taken ladies......

  • solverman - 2012-05-23 09:23

Just admitted to a crime... lock her sorry ass up... I think she will make a fine attorney...

  • justin.m.meyer - 2012-05-23 09:23

tsk, tsk, tsk! I wonder if she knows the answer to 1+1....

  • monkinsane - 2012-05-23 09:24

Seems like most models have no brains. hahahaha!

  • LanceyF - 2012-05-23 09:28

Thats pathetic! She is not the one at fault - our corrupt police officials are. Anyone that has commented to the contrary would also have paid the bribe - come on R2500 vs R30. ONly thing is you probably would not have gone public...

      Kotie - 2012-05-23 10:40

Thank you Lance, is everyone not missing the point?? It's the VERY SAD state of law enforcement that is supposed to be to blame here. As much as we're all aiding corruption by paying bribes, what are the alternatives? Paying huge fines, or even spending a weekend in jail (with associated possible consequences)?

      mbossenger - 2012-05-23 11:31

Kotie - how about not doing the crime in the first place?

  • Susan - 2012-05-23 09:28

How sad, she soon would be bribing her way out of court.

  • Hugo - 2012-05-23 09:31

FHM should be investigated, what are they doing to these girls?

  • Pete - 2012-05-23 09:36

This happens in broad daylight just watch metro police and the taxis next time you drive past them on the m2 and 1 highway. They take bribes openly and even ask for it in some cases

  • Zenobia - 2012-05-23 09:45

FHM is going to have to ban these girls from social media or get a PR person to vet their tweets.

  • peterjohnjnb - 2012-05-23 10:06

WHY DO WE CARE WHAT FHM MODELS THINK OR DO??? IS THIS NEWS???????

  • warren.elsom.7 - 2012-05-23 10:27

Some say models are among the stupidest people in THE WORLD...all we know is,it must be true

  • Natalia - 2012-05-23 10:36

I think that the issue has been brought to light simply because sabina is in the public eye. The real issue which needs to be adressed, is the officer in question's ethics. -has this minor story now been deemed news worthy in south africa? Its sad if this is the pinacle of journalism.

  • joe.peters.56 - 2012-05-23 10:38

Another SA version of the 'leaked' sex tape i.e. trashy attempt at trying to market yourself and / or revive your career because you have no substance

      Roulon du Toit - 2012-05-23 13:34

Just slightly less interesting then a leaked pork tape

  • Natalia - 2012-05-23 10:41

This issue has simply been brought to light because Sabina is somewhat in the public eye. Yes, it is wrong to bribe a police officer... However, surely the ethics of the officer in question should be highlighted too? -i find it sad that this story is what South African journalism has deemed news worthy. Hardly a pinnacle of wide-spread panic and devastation. Come on people. Rather go play angry birds, one can expand their mind much further.

  • homemissionary - 2012-05-23 10:42

140 in a 60 zone. THAT, for me, is the real story :-(

  • Sikender - 2012-05-23 10:48

Well at least Brett Murray will have another painting in mind....

  • lefnkompela - 2012-05-23 10:53

look in the mirror....do you see the dumb ass...? lol

  • russell.bennett1 - 2012-05-23 11:09

Why is this woman getting in trouble for being honest? Surely she should be more reviled for her dishonest backtrack cover-up attempt which is so obviously a fabrication than for having a conversation about a reality of daily life in Gauteng which everyone yes absolutely everyone at least everyone with an iota of honesty in their bones uses to their own advantage. It isn't the person paying the bribes who is in the wrong here, so why shouldn't she be allowed to highlight the fact that what is actually wrong is that the JMPD have absolutely no moral fiber and no comprehension of what is accepted and normal behaviour for a system of policing the public? By castigating the victim of this endemic culture of fraud and corruption what we're doing is reinforcing the view that being honest and truthful and "telling it straight" is being in the wrong, and that lying and cheating and just never bothering with that useless concept of truth and fairness is actually the right way to get on in life. It's retarded.

      patrick.b.fisher1 - 2012-05-23 12:26

It's like purchasing stolen goods... who's to blame? the person buying or the person selling or the thief? ALL parties are to be blamed... As long as there are people out there willing to buy, the thief and seller will continue supplying stolen goods. Same can be said for bribing.

  • ericanbarker - 2012-05-23 11:09

can someone please give these models some brains....stupid airheads!!!!
